We did see families with children on the lower parts of the trail, which itself is very nice. The trail is well constructed and maintained. The trailhead is at a large parking lot and a small store and cafe. I would start there. To reach the first refuge would require several hours. We hiked for about two hours up, then returned. Beautiful walk with some great vistas.
