Loos-en-Gohelle is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais department in the Hauts-de-France region of France. It is a former coal mining town, three miles northwest of the centre of Lens. The two largest spoil heaps in Europe are in Loos-en-Gohelle, those of pits 11 and 19, and are visible for miles around.
