Hello, it is actually quite easy to get to Williamsburg from Washington, DC via public transportation. From Union Station in DC (near the U.S. Capitol building) you board an AMtrak train that goes straight through to the Williamsburg Station without changes. It takes about three and one-half hours from that point. You can also take the local METRO subway trains to Alexandria, Virginia, where there is an Amtrak station around the corner of the King Street Metro Station. From there the train takes about three hours to Williamsburg. At the Williamsburg station you can catch one of the local buses that bring you around town, or a taxi. The Williamsburg station is only a few blocks away from ticket offices to buy your visitor's pass to Colonial Williamsburg attractions. Come visit and enjoy.
Q:
Where should I buy tickets?
A:
We bought them at the welcome center. Some activities (like carriage rides) fill up quickly. Check the website about buying tickets in advance. Have fun!

Q:
Would Williamsburg be fun at Christmas for 6 adults? Looking for a place within driving distance of Phila for the holiday. (Prefer to head south.)
A:
I would imagine it would be great, but would also look into other activities/sights to line up as well. Maybe will be able to spend one to at most two full days in Colonial Williamsburg itself
